Tiz The Law heads for Triple Crown in US Racing:
Is there any stopping Tiz The Law as the horse bids to follow Belmont Stakes win with Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes success and win the Triple Crown this year? With the current COVID situation the Kentucky Derby would have been the first of the three races in the series, however, it has now been moved to October.
Therefore with the re-scheduling of the race schedule, it was the Belmont Stakes which opened the Triple series this season. Three-year-old thoroughbreds can have a chance to enter these races and this year’s top horse to aim to achieve the feat is Tiz The Law.
Tiz The Law was the strong pre-race favourite for the Belmont Stakes and led approaching the final bend and pulled away from rivals going down the stretch to land the race in style. This horse won the Florida Derby in March and signs were ominous that a special horse was in the making.
Looking at Tiz The Law in more detail, the horse has run six times in total, winning five races. Trained by Barclay Tagg and owned by Sackatoga Stable, Tiz The Law has been ridden in all but the first race by top jockey Manuel Franco.
As a two-year-old Tiz the Law first ran over six and a half furlongs winning well at Saratoga then following up with a 1-mile victory at Belmont Park. The only defeat came at Churchill Downs in November 2019 when finishing third.
The three wins so far as a three-year-old in 2020 have been outstanding with the opening performance coming at Gulfstream Park in Feb 2020 and then came the Florida Derby also at Gulfstream Park in March.
Kentucky Derby 2020
The Kentucky Derby will take place on 5th September and form the 2nd part of the Triple Crown this year. Run over one mile and a quarter furlong at Churchill Downs, it promises to be a fascinating race especially that Tiz The Law suffered the only defeat so far in his career at that track finished third of eight runners with the winner being Silver Prospector.
The track at Churchill Downs is slightly different to what Tiz The Law has faced recently, so could have an effect on performance, though with such impressive wins of late the speed of the horse isn’t in question.
Preakness Stakes 2020
The final leg of the Triple Crown this year will be the Preakness Stakes which is now set for October 3rd at Pimlico racecourse. The race was originally set for the third Saturday in May and now becomes the showpiece event to see if Tiz The Law can win the Triple Crown.
Preview and Tips
Tiz The Law is the strong favourite to win the Kentucky Derby at odds of +175.
Odds by sportsbookreview.com
Other likely runners who could stop Tiz the Law from completing the second leg of the Triple Crown are Honor AP, priced at +500 and Authentic whose current odds are + 1100. Dr Post and Cezanne are likely to run in the race, but all eyes will be on Tiz The Law.
One point to note is that Tiz The Law’s only defeat came at Churchill Downs, the venue of the Kentucky Derby and winning horse that day was Silver Prospector who can be backed at +5000 to win the race. The high odds are set given the horse hasn’t trained on from a two-year-old and won’t come into the race in good form.
Should Tiz The Law win the Kentucky Derby which on current form is more than likely we would think, then the final leg of the 2020 Triple Crown will be the Preakness Stakes which now has a date of October 3rd 2020. Once Tiz The Law wins the Kentucky Derby expectations are the horse will be short odds to complete the final leg of the Triple Crown this year.
